Opening a business bank account is one of the first jobs for a new company, and many founders wonder whether they need a company stamp first. Generally, no — but it is worth having one ready. This article gives general information only; requirements differ between banks, so always check with your bank before your appointment.

The short answer

A company stamp is not a legal requirement in Singapore (see is a company stamp mandatory), and many banks now offer online account opening for local companies, using digital records instead of stamped paperwork. For many businesses, a stamp is not needed to open the account.

What banks usually ask for instead

  • Your company's business profile from ACRA.
  • Your company constitution.
  • A board resolution authorising the account and naming the signatories.
  • Identification for directors, signatories and beneficial owners.

Where a company stamp may still come up

  • Paper forms — some account opening, mandate or resolution forms include a space for the company stamp.
  • Your own constitution — if it says documents are executed with a seal or stamp, follow it.
  • Payment documents — some companies stamp cheques, payment vouchers or authorisation letters as an internal control.
  • Overseas banks and partners — practice varies by country, and many still expect a stamp impression.

Is a digital stamp enough for bank forms?

For forms you submit online, a digital stamp image may be accepted where a stamp is requested, but banks set their own rules. For signed paper forms, a physical impression is usually expected. Read is an electronic company stamp valid for more on digital use.

Be ready before your appointment

  • Ask your bank in advance whether any form needs a company stamp.
  • Bring your stamp to the appointment — it avoids a second visit if a form asks for one.
  • Make sure the stamp shows your registered name and UEN exactly as on your ACRA profile.
